Disclaimer & Terms of Use

Last updated: June 1, 2025

Read this before relying on anything you see on NigeriaPolls.

Polls are statistical snapshots, not predictions. “In the News” items are AI-monitored signals, not verified facts. Public-official contact details are sourced from public records and may not be current. Always verify before acting.

These Terms incorporate, by reference, the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 (FCCPA), the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015, and the Electoral Act 2022. Where any provision of these Terms conflicts with mandatory provisions of those statutes, the statutory provisions prevail.

1. General Disclaimer

NigeriaPolls (the "Platform", "we", "us", "our") is an independent, non-partisan public opinion research and political-data publisher operated in Nigeria. Information published on the Platform — including poll results, indices, official directories, news monitoring, and editorial content — is provided for civic, informational and research purposes only. Nothing on the Platform constitutes legal, electoral, financial, medical or professional advice.

2. Polling Data

Poll results published on NigeriaPolls are statistical snapshots of the opinions held by sampled respondents at the time of fielding. They are subject to sampling error, mode-of-administration effects, weighting decisions, and ordinary respondent volatility. NO POLL RESULT PUBLISHED ON NIGERIAPOLLS.NG CONSTITUTES A PREDICTION, FORECAST, OR GUARANTEE OF ELECTION OUTCOMES, MARKET PRICES, POLICY DECISIONS, OR ANY FUTURE EVENT. Readers should always review the methodology note attached to each poll — including field dates, sample size, margin of error and weighting variables — before drawing conclusions. Where the Platform reports results to a confidence interval, that interval describes statistical uncertainty only and does not warrant the underlying truth of any answer given by a respondent.

3. Agent-Monitored News (“In the News”)

The “In the News” section on each official’s profile and the site-wide /news-feed contain items submitted by third-party automated monitoring agents that scan publicly accessible Nigerian news sources, social-media feeds and parliamentary records. Each item is clearly labelled “Unverified — AI-monitored” and links back to its original source. NigeriaPolls has not independently verified each individual claim contained in these items. Readers must always verify through the original source link. We provide a one-click “Report issue” button on every monitored item; flagged items are reviewed and may be hidden, with a public reason where appropriate. Items below our internal confidence threshold are auto-hidden pending manual review.

4. Public-Official Profiles & Contact Information

Profiles of governors, senators, House of Representatives members, state-assembly members and federal cabinet officials are compiled from public records, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) website, the National Assembly directory, official state-government websites, Hansard, party communications, and reputable Nigerian news media. We strive for accuracy but cannot guarantee that every contact detail (email, phone, parliamentary office) is current. If you are a public official or authorised representative, you may claim and verify your profile via /politics/officials//claim. To request correction or removal of any specific information, contact legal@nigeriapolls.com and we will respond within seven (7) working days.

5. Verified Official Statements

The “Verified announcements” section is restricted to public officials whose identity our verification team has confirmed. Verified statements are published as authored by the named official or their authorised staff. NigeriaPolls does not endorse the content of verified statements; we provide a neutral platform for direct civic communication. Officials remain solely legally responsible for the content they publish. We reserve the right to hide statements that violate our civic guidelines (incitement, hate speech, defamatory allegations) and may revoke verification on evidence of impersonation.

6. Privacy & Data Protection

Our processing of personal data is governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and our Privacy Policy. We collect only the data necessary to operate the Platform: panellist phone numbers (with explicit consent), email addresses for newsletters, voter session identifiers (cookies, expiring), and identification documents submitted during profile claims (encrypted at rest, deleted after review unless legally required). You may request access, correction or deletion of your personal data at any time by writing to legal@nigeriapolls.com. We do not sell personal data to third parties.

7. Constituent Comments & User-Generated Content

Constituent comments are user-submitted, phone-verified messages directed at named officials. Comments are moderated before publication; we may reject, edit or remove content that is defamatory, threatening, sexually explicit, hateful on protected grounds (Cybercrimes Act 2015, s. 24), or that violates other applicable Nigerian laws. Users grant NigeriaPolls a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to display, archive and re-publish their comments in connection with the Platform. Submitting false personal information or impersonating another person is prohibited and may be reported to law enforcement.

8. Intellectual Property & Fair Use

All editorial content, indices, charts, design and software on NigeriaPolls are © NigeriaPolls unless otherwise marked. Polling data sets are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) and may be reused with attribution and a link back. Photographs of public officials are used under Nigerian fair-dealing principles for purposes of news reporting, criticism and review; copyright in those photographs remains with the respective copyright holders. Excerpts from official Hansard, INEC publications and government websites are used under Crown / public-information principles.

9. Electoral Act & Campaign Finance Compliance

NigeriaPolls publishes public polling for civic and journalistic purposes. We do not engage in paid promotion of any candidate or party. Where the Platform conducts custom research for political clients, those engagements are confidential and conducted within the requirements of the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC guidelines on campaign-related polling. Our public polls are funded through subscriptions, custom-research engagements, grants and authorised commercial partnerships; we publish a list of significant funders annually on our /about page.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, NigeriaPolls, its officers, employees, contractors and partners shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages arising from (a) reliance on Platform content, (b) inability to access the Platform, (c) actions taken on the basis of poll results or news items, or (d) third-party content linked from the Platform. Nothing in this clause limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The High Court of Lagos State has exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or use of the Platform.

12. Notices & Removal Requests

Legal notices, removal requests, takedown demands, defamation complaints, NDPA data-subject requests and good-faith corrections should be sent to legal@nigeriapolls.com with the subject line beginning [LEGAL]. We acknowledge legitimate notices within three (3) working days and respond substantively within seven (7) working days. The Platform operates a good-faith “notice and review” framework; we reserve the right to publish a redacted record of removal decisions for transparency.
